Established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, the temple features vibrant Nagara style architecture. It is believed that Lord Vishnu performed severe penance here while Goddess Lakshmi protected him in the form of a Badri tree.

Badrinath is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the holiest shrines for followers of Lord Vishnu (Vaishnavites).

Before entering the temple, pilgrims take a holy dip in Tapt Kund, a natural thermal spring with medicinal properties.

The temple is open from May to October/November. Avoid the monsoon months of July and August if possible.
